Contemporary Asian Living Rooms – 2005

Lines of Light
When the owners of this house in Singapore approached HYLA Architects to design their home, the emphasis was to create an open space dominated by clean lines and lots of natural light.

1. The “floating” staircase against the party wall enhances the height of the living and dining space. When it came to decorating the space, the owners chose pieces that “looked classic and would stand the test of time,” such as the mustard Frigetto Cubo from Limited Edition, the dark rug from Mod.Living and the two Frog chairs designed by Lissoni for Living Divano at Cream. A painting by Ann Healey standing on an acrylic base picks up the colors and tones used elsewhere in the space.

2. These glass doors that pull all the way back to reveal the front patio area further accentuate the openness of the space. The color scheme of the room is comfortable and welcoming. This fun and funky Squeeze Bench designed by Patrick Chia provides “the only curves in an area otherwise dominated by straight lines,” say the owners. “It makes a really dramatic counterpoint.”
