This is a study into how to make a typical intermediate terrace house bright and expansive. Skylights and screens are used to blur the line between the inside and outside, creating a relaxed, almost country feel to the interiors. A new extension at the rear adds a bright and lovely new master bedroom to the 2nd storey, and a new guest room with bathroom en suite on the ground floor. A series of timber screens that can be opened allows ventilation and yet provides privacy to the master bedroom. In addition, it has a small skylight terrace overlooking an internal koi pond. From the street, one’s eyes are immediately drawn to the curved aluminium screen on the 2nd floor, which forms the main design element of the front facade. This was formerly a balcony which is now converted into a rather unusual bathroom shared by the two existing bedrooms.
